This intense, ruby red wine from Barbera grapes (55-70%) and Bonarda – the local name for Croatina grapes – (30-45%), thus it has the same grape composition as the non-barreled, often slightly sparkling and, also often, sweetish Colli Piancentini Gutturnio DOC, but with a lower alcohol content. Colli Piacentini Gutturnio Superiore DOC has a slightly vinous scent and a dry, soft and mellow taste, with a good body. Aging potential is up to 7 years. If the label mentions “Gutturnio Classico”, it means that the wine is still and produced in a specific area encompassing the entire hilly area around the municipalities Ziano Piacentino and parts of the municipalities Borgognovo Val Tidone, Castel San Giovanni, Nibbiano, Vigolzone, Castell’Arquarto, Carpaneto Piacentino, Lugagnano, Val d’Arda and Gropparello.
